Win a library of DIY Guides

Published by bookish at 4:00 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Canadian readers! Got a home or garden you’re thinking of fixing up, with a little help from Canadian Tire and a bunch of duct tape?

Raincoast Books has had a contest running that I only just found out about, where you can win a library of Do-it-Yourself (DIY) guides from Oxmoor House and Sunset Books. The problem with my just finding out today is that you only have through March 31 to enter.  So that’s tomorrow!

You’ll enter by emailing contest@raincoast.com, with “DIY Contest” in the subject line. One entry per person, and you have to be a resident of Canada.

Meanwhile, while you’re there, you can sign up for the newsletter from Raincoast, to be kept informed about other promotions and upcoming books. Obviously, that’s what I should do too, isn’t it?

Man, I have a lot of Canadian friends. There must be something about Canadians I really like. That means, of course, that most of the cool things they bring up don’t apply to me, but, as they undoubtedly get the same treatment by American contests, I’m not going to complain.

Heehee! The funny thing is that I get it going the other way too, even in cyberspace where I’d expect there to be no real boundaries in North America. I’m a big anime fan, and write anime articles on a news site, but I’m getting quite used to the fact that when distributors send press releases about how we can view new episodes online — I’m likely to get a message saying, “Sorry, Hulu.com doesn’t operate in your country.”

Alas, for those who believed the internet would erase boundaries. They should have guessed that the corporatists would find ways to make it just as exclusionary as similarly artificial geographical borders.

Hey, do you like Fruits Basket or is it just me? I’m not a huge anime fan, but my daughter and husband are. However, this one (manga and anime) completely sucked me in.

That’s one I haven’t gotten to yet — not because I’m not interested but because I’m kind of dependent on what gets shown on our YTV (Youth Television) channel here, and the Anime Network channel I’m subscribed to. But I think I actually read a post you made about it sometime, perhaps…? And I remember thinking that I should see if I can find it somewhere, to check it out.
